COLFAX, N.C. (WFMY) — As the tragic murder of Sgt. Philip Dale Nix has garnered attention across the state of North Carolina, Sheetz has implemented a new security measure to ensure that something like this doesn’t happen again.

Sergeant Philip Dale Nix was off duty Saturday afternoon when he saw a crime in progress, tried to stop it, and was shot at the Sheetz on Sandy Ridge Road in Colfax. Coincidently, another off-duty officer and a Guilford County paramedic were on the scene. They rushed to help Sgt. Nix, but he later died at the hospital.

The Public Relations manager Nick Ruffner said since the murder, they will provide additional security to the Colfax location and any location in need of support.
