Man charged in hit-run-death of Pender teen appears in court
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man accused of hitting a teen and leaving the scene appeared before a judge this morning.
Troopers said James Williams Jr. struck and killed Tomas Green on Highway 17 near Hampstead last week. During a court hearing Tuesday morning, Williams asked for a court-appointed attorney. His next appearance is June 15. He was originally booked in jail under a $50,000 bond on charges including felony hit-and-run.
According to public records from the Department of Public Safety, Williams was convicted of a DWI in February and was sentenced to probation and a suspended sentence. The offense date was listed as September of 2015 in New Hanover County, according to the records. The total supervision time was listed at 18 months.
Court records show Williams also has pending heroin charges and is due in court in August in New Hanover County.
