Mosquito spraying begins with increased hours

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Pender county mosquito division is beginning to spray with increased hours.

According to a bi-weekly update from the county manager, crews are increasing their hours to 6:00 p.m. -11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Crews will also spray from 4:00 a.m. -7:00 a.m. if needed.

Due to the potential of Zeka Virus and excessive rainfall this past year, County Manager Randell Woodruff recommended to increase the County’s services.

  • Truck spraying and larvicide on all school property. This will need to be coordinated with each principle.
  • Truck spraying, barrier spraying and larvicide at PMP, HKP, and Miller’s Pond.
  • Increase our spray hours from 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM – Monday –Friday
  • Increase our spray hours at 4:00 AM – 7:00 AM if needed.
  • We will have seven (7) Part-time sprayers this spraying season to cover the entire county and provide additional services.
  • Obtained list of bee keepers in the county to prevent any damages to bee hive locations.
  • Increase frequency of mosquito trap settings.
