Man shot on Ringo Drive: Suspect found dead from self-inflicted gunshot after crash on I-40

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man shot multiple times is expected to survive after a family dispute Friday morning in Wilmington.

Wilmington Police say they responded to the 5200 block of Ringo Drive just before 4:00 a.m. in reference to a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Police say he was reported to have been shot by a family member.

The suspect, Alexey Torres, left before officers arrived. Shortly after, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputies located the suspect’s vehicle crashed on I-40.

Torres fled into the woods. SABLE and K9 were brought in to help find the suspect.  Law enforcement heard a gunshot and found Torres seriously injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim in this case is expected to survive.
