132 parking meters installed in northern downtown

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You might have noticed some new parking meters on the north end of Downtown Wilmington.

Dylan Lee with the city tells us these new meters are all part of the Vision 2020 plan for downtown. Lee said crews have installed 132 coin operated meters in the last month, this is more cost efficient for now since they aren’t used as much as those in the heart of downtown, which have been converted to smart meters.

The meters have two hour maximums and cost one dollar per hour.

Lee said the primary users of the spaces are students and visitors of CFCC and the new performing arts center as well as patrons of events at the N. Waterfront Park and the new marina, future residences at Pier 133 and other residential and retail development in the area.

Also new to the area- tour bus and crew bus parking zone established on 2nd Street behind the CFCC Fine Arts Center.
