$15 million being used to address, mitigate shoreline erosion at Snow’s Cut

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The USACE, Wilmington District is receiving $15 million as part of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The money will be used to address and mitigate shoreline erosion along Snow’s Cut.
Scoping of the shoreline stabilization project is underway and the shoreline adjacent to the former Snow’s Cut Park is one of the primary areas being assessed.
Snow’s Cut Park permanently closed on June 30, 2021, due to significant and persistent shoreline erosion that has occurred, forming steep embankments along the shoreline, compromising the septic system, and creating sinkholes on the land.
Once the shoreline erosion stabilization project is complete or substantially underway, officials say they are willing to explore the possibility of resuming a Parks and Recreation Lease with any local Government entity that may have interest.
