Southport house fire leaves man with burns on face, injures four firefighters

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A Southport house fire late Monday morning left a man with minor injuries.
Southport Fire was dispatched at 11:26 a.m., finding heavy fire in the garage and roof of the two-story residential structure.
The homeowner says he heard a smoke alarm going off in the garage. When he opened the door, the fire flashed, and burned his hair and face.
He assisted his elderly mother in law out of the house and was treated at the scene for minor burns.
Four firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated on the scene for falls.
The fire was controlled in 40 minutes.
Crews are still investigating the fire, but say the home is a total loss.
