The Bridge Presbyterian Church hosts Ash Wednesday drive-through

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Bridge Presbyterian Church in Leland hosted a drive-thru event for Ash Wednesday where observers could receive an ash cross.

Ash Wednesday marks the first day of lent, which is a period of prayer and fasting that takes place six weeks before easter. 

In addition to the ash blessing, participants also received “lent in a bag” which featured a collection of items that symbolize the practice of lent. 

Pastor Doug Cushing said the church is glad to provide the service to the community. 

“We’re glad to be able to be a blessing to the community,” Cushing said. “We know a lot of people are new here, haven’t found a church home and Ash Wednesday is very important to them. And so, we’re glad to be a blessing for them and super glad to be here on this beautiful day.”
