LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A lane of U.S. 74 is closing Sunday for overnight work expected to take around a month.

The left eastbound lane of the highway over U.S. 17 near the Battleship North Carolina will be closed between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. beginning February 25th.

The closures will take place Sunday nights through Friday mornings each week through March 29th. The right lane will remain open at all times.Crews are replacing an outdated guardrail system with a concrete wall. Drivers should slow down and be alert for crews and equipment going through this work zone.

The NCDOT says this work is imperative while the eastbound lanes of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge are closed for preservation work.
