Hooley Under the Bridge celebrates Irish culture ahead of St. Patrick’s Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Organizers of Wilmington’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade hosted a fundraising event yesterday in anticipation of the upcoming celebration.

The seventh annual Cape Fear “Hooley Under the Bridge” took place at Waterline Brewing, showcasing a lively atmosphere with singing, dancing, and the traditional sound of bagpipes.

The event served as a prelude to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade scheduled to take place in downtown Wilmington next month.

Organizer Joe Newcomb expressed said he is pleased to see the event’s growth over the years.

“This is Hooley number seven, so we’ve gone from maybe 100 people to 1200, and it’s become a significant event for the Irish American community,” Newcomb said.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be in downtown Wilmington on March 16, at 11 a.m.
