CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The future of SeaWitch Cafe and Tiki bar in Carolina Beach remains uncertain after being recently purchased by Harmony Hospitality along with several adjacent plots at 223, 225, 235, 237 and 238 Carolina Beach Avenue.

Harmony also owns the Embassy Suites Hotel in Downtown Wilmington. The company is now seeking to rezone the purchased land for multi-use development.

E. J. Griffin—the owner of Nollie’s Tacos Joint next door—worries what the construction will mean for his business.

“When they knocked them buildings down, it was a mess over here,” Griffin said.” But, they’re going to do what they’re going to do. Hopefully they’re not able to do that but it’s a wild world out there and it’s changing here in Carolina Beach.”

Griffin also noted that part of Nollie’s outdoor patio encroaches on land now owned by Harmony Hospitality, raising concerns about a potential loss of space.

A community meeting addressing the rezoning proposal is scheduled for March 7 at 6 p.m. at the Community Life Center on 300 Harper Ave. in Carolina Beach.

Those who are unable to attend can send questions and comments to info@harmonyhospitality.com or (757) 363-9671.
