Man arrested following high speed chase through Columbus County

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A man has been arrested following a high speed chase through Columbus County.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says they were conducting a routine traffic safety checkpoint on Jefferson Street near Whiteville early Tuesday morning when a silver Jeep Liberty bypassed the checkpoint without stopping and accelerated toward town.
Speeds greater than 8o miles per hour were reached, with the drive failing to maintain lane control, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say the suspect then intentionally accelerated into the deputy’s vehicle striking the patrol vehicle head on. The force of the collision propelled the suspect’s vehicle backwards. He then accelerated towards the patrol vehicle a second time, striking the side of the patrol vehicle, causing damage to the patrol vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office says.
Jamison Patrick Neuman was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.
Neuman faces charges from Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and NC State Highway Patrol, including Felony Flee to Elude and Assault with a Deadly Weapon, DWI (Driving While Impaired), DWLR (Driving While License Revoked), and Open Container Violation.
