North Carolina Zoo Nominated for “Best Zoo” in U.S.

Asheboro, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro is getting some recognition.

It was nominated for “Best Zoo” in USA today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards for 2024.

Results of the nationwide contest were revealed March 13th with the North Carolina Zoo coming in 3rd place.

It is the world’s largest natural habitat zoo spanning over 2800 acres and caring for over 1700 animals.

The North Carolina Zoo also turns 50 this year, making the nomination an added treat for its golden anniversary.

The zoo is located in Asheboro which is about three hours away from the Cape Fear.
