CALABASH, NC (WWAY) — A new Walmart Supercenter officially opened in Calabash on Wednesday, with Wheel of Fortune co-host and North Myrtle Beach native Vanna White joining the celebration.

White was on hand to meet and interact with supporters during the grand opening, just miles from the South Carolina community where she grew up.

The new store, located at 9700 Ocean Highway West, spans 171,000 square feet and features groceries, clothing, home goods, electronics, health and wellness products and everyday essentials.

The Supercenter also includes a pharmacy, deli, Vision Center and Auto Care Center, along with pickup and delivery services.

White said she was impressed by the new facility and noted how much the area has changed since her childhood.

“When I was growing up, there were not stores like this,” White said. “It’s important to have. It shows people are coming in, and it’s good to have a place to go.”

The Calabash location is the first new Walmart store to open in North Carolina since January 2018, when a Supercenter opened in Swansboro.

Walmart also highlighted its latest fall fashion offerings as part of Wednesday’s celebration.

The new Supercenter is expected to employ approximately 450 associates and is actively hiring for additional positions. Those interested in employment opportunities can visit Walmart Careers.
