Familiar faces at new places; Russell Dove & Rocky Lewis transition South

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two familiar faces will be roaming the sidelines on Friday at the 30th Annual BB&T Jamboree. Former East Columbus head football coach Rocky Lewis accepted the head coaching position at South Brunswick during the off season. Former West Bladen head football coach Russell Dove accepted the head coaching position at South Columbus during the off season. “There comes a time that I’ve done all I can at one location,” Russell Dove told WWAY. “The biggest thing is getting back to foundational football, running the football, a strong weightroom and I’m real big on bringing the community back. That’s what we want and need and that’s where the support comes from.”

As for this year’s team at South Columbus? “We are inexperienced, we are young, we lost 18-20 seniors last year.”

At South Brunswick Rocky Lewis definitely has more resources than he had at East Columbus. “It was a good opportunity to be able to go to South Brunswick,” Rocky Lewis said.

Will Lewis be able to help the Cougars get off the bottom of the Mideastern Conference though? Will the Cougars be able to compete?  “I don’t know if we’ll be ready or not, but that is part of the challenge That’s what you look forward to. If you can’t get excited going to play Hoggard, or New Hanover or Laney or any of those big guys, or Ashley, then there’s something missing. It is exciting to take the David & Goliath approach and make that the challenge and we look forward to it.”
