Inaugural Joe Miller Invitational to tip off in Wilmington in December
WILMINGTON, NC (PHENOM HOOPS RELEASE) — New Hanover High School holds 17 state basketball championships and now nationally recognized basketball is back in the basketball hungry area.
From December 27-30 the nation will be looking in on Wilmington, North Carolina for Phenom’s Joe Miller Invitational. 247Sports released their Top 150 national rankings, on Friday of last week, and there are a staggering 15 kids ranked nationally, who will be participating in Phenom’s Joe Miller Invitational.
With prospects carrying offers from the likes of Kansas, NC State, Wake Forest, Louisville, Southern Cal, South Carolina, Oregon, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, etc…and players already committed to the likes of UNC, Florida, and Virginia Tech this will be one of the most talked about events in the region, with the nation’s eye firmly planted on Wilmington.
Held in Brogden Hall at New Hanover High School, the talent will be showcased across four (4) days in a 16 team tournament format. All will be in the name of the late Joe Miller, the Hall of Fame New Hanover football coach and former New Hanover County Athletics Director. This will be a big boost to the economy of the City of Wilmington.
Phenom Hoop Report will be releasing the 16 team field in early September. The field of teams is comprised of nationally recognized programs from eight (8) states across the Eastern Region. Phenom Hoops’ Managing Partner Jamie Shaw stated, “We are excited to bring a nationally recognized event of this magnitude to the city of Wilmington. It will be a great boost to the local economy and we are very grateful to be able to honor the legacy of Joe Miller.”
This is the 13th year Phenom Hoops has held events, as Founder Rick Lewis started the NC Phenom 150 exposure camps in 2003, in Huntersville, North Carolina. This is now the third year that Lewis and managing partner Jamie Shaw have held High School Showcases, also hosting Phenom Hoops National Showcase, Phenom’s Millbrook Winter Showcase, and Phenom’s Joe Miller Invitational. These events have had McDonald’s All Americans, Future NBA draft picks, and high school National Champions.
