Southport sign ordinance under discussion tonight

The type of signs businesses can display in Southport is up for discussion tonight. A group of business owners and city leaders is meeting to discuss the lengthy city ordinance that deals with signs that can and can not be used.

City manager Alan Thornton says much of the ordinance that has been on the books for years has not been enforced until recently when concerns about liability were voiced.

The group will present recommendations to the Board of Aldermen next month. Tonight’s meeting starts at six at Southport City Hall.
