Wave Transit gives update for Reimagine short-range transit plan

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several new bus routes could make it easier for passengers dependent on Wave Transit.

The Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority gave an update about the plan during its meeting Thursday afternoon.

The ReImagine Wave Short-Range Transit plan will add several new routes throughout Wilmington.

One proposed route would be a 15-minute service between Padgett Station and Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mark Hairr is Wave Transit’s executive director.

He said this plan will make it easier to get around Wilmington as the city’s population continues to grow.

“As we all know, Wilmington’s growing quite a bit and so this system really looks at the current situation and also projections for growth and where the transportation needs are in the city,” Hairr said. “So this’ll help address those needs, again both near term and future.”

Hairr said the plan likely won’t be implemented until next year at the earliest.
