Nashville songwriters find inspiration along Brunswick County coast

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Some Nashville songwriters are using the beauty of Oak Island as inspiration for creating some new work.

Folks with publishing company, Songs for the Planet, are spending the weekend writing as many songs as they can for different artists.

They are in Brunswick County for a song writing camp with a goal of creating more than 30 gospel songs.

The company travels across the country doing camps where they write different genres of songs from reggae to rock to country.

Founder Justin Peters say they break up into teams each day with their instruments and pens nearby and just let their minds go.

“Does it get much better than this place? I mean you come out here and your inspired 24/7,” Peters said. “You come out here in the middle of the night, you don’t want to even go to sleep. You come here in the middle of the day, you know you see sea oats and beautiful beaches.”

Peters says there will be special guests coming into town this weekend too like comedian Victoria Jackson of Saturday Night Live.
