Police show support for fallen Texas officer’s kid on first day of school

(CNN) — A four-year-old boy whose police officer father recently died hugged a small army of officers who escorted him on his first day of pre-k in Amarillo, Texas.

Jackson Scherlen’s father, Officer Justin Scherlen, died a few weeks ago, but Jackson didn’t have to walk up to the doors of his new school along.

Scherlen’s brothers and sisters in blue were with Jackson every step of the way.

Officers showed up at Jackson’s elementary school when he started his first day, lining up to wish him good luck.
