Local teen competes in World Jr. Surfing Championships in Portugal

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Surfing is a popular sport and that is especially true right along our coast. Wilmington teen Bo Raynor will soon be competing for the top title half way across the world.

Bo makes surfing look easy when he was out in Wrightsville Beach Tuesday.

He first started surfing at just 3-years-old. Now 16, he has traveled all over the US surfing, even Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

He’s adding another place to the list because Bo is headed to Europe Wednesday.

Bo will be competing in the International Surfing Association World Junior Surfing Championship in the Azores Islands of Portugal.

He’s one of the lucky few chosen from the US surf team to be a part of it with hopes to take home a gold medal.

“There is going to be a ton of different countries there so that should be cool,” Bo said. “I look forward to marching with Team USA.”

While his goal is to turn pro and be on the World Surf League, he says his ultimate aspiration is to become an Olympic medalist.

“I would love to be a part of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and to compete for my country on that big of a stage would be awesome,” Bo said.

We wish you the best of luck in the competition!
