New Hanover County beach towns meet to discuss shore protection
New Hanover County, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County beach towns came together this morning to talk about issues that impact them and the rest of the area.
New Hanover County Shore Protection Coordinator, Layton Besole, gave an overview of the Coastal Shore Damage Reduction Project, along with inlet maintenance work in the county.
Wrightsville Beach Town Manager, Tim Owens, says events like this bring everyone together to understand what challenges they face in common.
Owens said, “Right now we’re all trying to determine where the next cycle is for beach nourishment and when the funding may happen, and if the funding may happen. So that’s something that we’re all working on. And this type of meeting gets us all on the same page and gives us all the same understanding.”
New Hanover County Commissioners, Wilmington Mayor, and members of the general assembly were also part of the meeting, underscoring the importance of the beach towns to the regional economy.
