Lauren Risk came to WWAY as an intern in May 2016 after finishing her education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She studied Communication Studies with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism and was eager to get her foot in the door in the news industry. While in school, Lauren was a reporter for Seahawk Central News and held an executive position for the campus station TealTV. Her passion for television news brought her to WWAY, and after several months as an intern, the station hired her as a news producer. Lauren was born in Indianapolis, but she has been a Carolina girl since 1999, when her family moved to New Bern. When she isn’t in the newsroom you’ll find her drinking coffee, reading, spending time with friends/family and traveling. In high school she set out to explore Europe several times, which only expanded her interest in news, current events and keeping up with politics. Whether it’s heading out west to hit the ski slopes or heading east to experience other countries, she’s always out looking for her next adventure! Lauren is excited to begin her news career at WWAY and happy for the chance to continue enjoying the beach town with her two dogs, Milo and Cooper.
