Southport Wooden Boat Show draws thousands to the area

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — It was a gorgeous day for the 7th Annual Wooden Boat Show in Southport Saturday.

Thousands packed into the Old Yacht Basin to check out boat on display and food and craft vendors.

From fishing boats to row boats, each year the show features wooden boats from past and present.

This year, crews will even be building a wooden boat during the event.

“There are not many opportunities for people to see these boats,” Boat show President Robert Potter said. “To see how the boats are constructed, the labor of love that goes into these boat just to maintain them and hold on to them for a few more years so it’s just very important for us to pass that on to other generations.”

Potter says the event continues to grow every year. He adds it’s nice to see so many people interested.
