Town of Burgaw appoints new fire chief

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) —  The Town of Burgaw says Johnathan Prevatte will take over as the town’s new Fire Chief, effective May 13.

“We are confident that Johnathan’s extensive experience, coupled with his leadership and vision, will be pivotal as the Burgaw Fire Department continues to serve and protect our community effectively,” stated James Gantt, Burgaw Town Manager. “We look forward to his contributions and leadership in making Burgaw a safer place for all residents and visitors.”

Most recently, Prevatte served as Captain with Jacksonville Fire & Emergency Services, where he managed daily operations, oversaw incident command, and ensured the safety and effectiveness of departmental activities.

Additionally, he has actively served in Onslow County Emergency Services as a Fire/Rescue Emergency Responder, and made significant contributions to firefighter training and education as a Contract Fire and Rescue Instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College.

Prevatte’s educational background includes undergraduate studies in Political Science with a focus on Public Administration from Fayetteville State University, complemented by an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration Operations Management from Fayetteville Technical Community College.

A town press release says, “His professional qualifications are extensive, including certifications as a Fire Inspector Level I, Fire Officer Level II, General Instructor Level II, and various others essential to effective emergency response.
