FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Funnel clouds spotted in Columbus County, no damage reported

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten tells WWAY his officers and firefighters have checked several areas where there were reports of a funnel cloud or tornado and have found no damage.

Earlier Batten confirmed to WWAY that two of his deputies spotted a funnel cloud or clouds this afternoon. Chadbourn Town Manager Stevie Cox told WWAY his public works director told him there was a tornado touchdown near Peacock Crossing, but that is among the areas officers have checked.
