Brunswick County golfer wins $100,000 in scratch-off game

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Calabash golfer already knows what he’s going to buy first after winning a $100,000 scratch-off prize.
“I’m going to get a new set of irons,” Jack Romans, Jr. said.
According to a news release from the NC Education Lottery, Romans bought his lucky $2,000,000 Diamond Deluxe ticket from RM Mart on Seaside Road Southwest in Sunset Beach.
“I guess I was just in the right place at the right time,” Romans said.
It’s an early birthday present for Romans, who is celebrating his birthday soon.
He arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,506.
In addition to golf clubs, Romans said he plans to pay some bills with his winnings.
The $2,000,000 Diamond Deluxe game debuted in December with four $2 million top prizes and eight $100,000 prizes. Three $2 million prizes and five $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
