Neighbor reacts after home hit by bullets in Carolina Beach shooting

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Gunfire rang out yesterday afternoon in what neighbors call a quiet neighborhood in Carolina Beach. Today one neighbor, whose home was struck by bullets, recounts what it was like to be in the heart of it all.

Linda Ostrenko said at first she didn’t realize that the popping sounds she heard outside her home on Searay Lane were gunshots. She said at first it was just a few spread out shots, but then they started coming faster and closer together and after she heard police yelling outside her home. She said when she realized what was happening she was absolutely terrified.

“So I went to the back and I was hyperventilating I was so scared. And I kinda had to do some bio feedback on myself because I was afraid I was going to have a heart attack,” said Ostrenko.

Ostrenko said she is from Atlanta and said hearing gunfire is not something that is entirely new to her, however she said this incident is the most scared she has ever been.
