Carolina Beach restaurant will stay open until dough is gone

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach town leaders have ordered a mandatory evacuation for all non residents from the island and a voluntary evacuation has been advised for all residents.

But other than some gusty winds and cloudy skies things were still relatively calm on Pleasure Island today.

There were still some people taking in some time on the beach this afternoon and walking around the almost deserted Carolina Beach Boardwalk. There was at least one restaurant still open for business despite being all boarded up.

The folks at Frank’s say they’ll be open tonight until the pizza dough runs out, but this weekend they’ll join the rest of the Boardwalk in closing down. Most places are boarded up and hunkered down for Matthew to make it’s way through.

Some people say they plan on leaving the island at some point this evening, while others say they plan on settling in and riding out a stormy weekend.
