Community’s small food drive ends big for flood victims
HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — We continue to see our communities uniting to help flood victims who don’t have the basic necessities because of evacuations.
Tuesday night some families in the Hampstead area decided to have a food drive for folks in Pender County shelters.
Heather Sheehan says they were hoping to take just one truck load to two shelters in the area.
But after local businesses and other families got word of it, within’ a couple hours they had more than five truck loads of non-perishable food items to take to shelters and the kids played a major role.
“We started last night with poster boards,” Sheehan said of the kids. ” They’ve been out here since about 7:45 this morning. We’ve been in contact with the shelters.”
Organizers are hoping others will follow their lead because small food donation drives still have a big impact.
