Columbus County Fair aims to bring hope in tough times
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Fair opened earlier this evening despite there still being some flooding and power outages throughout the Cape Fear.
People of all ages came out to the fair grounds on Prison Camp Road tonight to have a good time.
“We come every year, so we look forward to it,” said Lacy Lennon.
Despite Hurricane Matthew tearing through the area less than a week ago, this year is no different.
“This is the biggest thing in Columbus County. I mean there’s like nothing here so I mean this is the biggest thing for us that we look forward to,” said Kelsey Hinson.
Most people who came out Wednesday night agreed, this is exactly what the people out there need right now.
“With the community being down, this is the way to bring them up,” said Frances Rose with Big Daddy’s Catering.
For some without power, the fair is a place to escape if only for a few hours.
“We got food out here. Some people have not had any food, cooked food lately, for several days and if you can make it out here it’ll be a good place to come out and get something to eat,” said Danny Benton the president of the fair.
The fair will be open daily all weekend long.
