Flood victim waiting out waters

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — More homes are flooded as water continues to rise in Pender County, and more roads are being closed.

It is making it harder for those who live in the area to get around, and overnight the water has risen three to four feet or even more in some areas.

200 homes are affected by the flood waters and 70 are completely submerged.

Resident Ted Brown is one of several people who said they’ve never experienced anything like this. His 16,000 acre hunting range is completely submerged and now he’s just waiting out the flood waters to see if his home is still there.

Through everything Brown said he’s just lucky to be alive considering how dangerous the conditions are in Pender County.

“My great, great granddaddy built that house, but still it’s not worth a life you know,” Brown said.

Brown remains faithful that everything will be okay and said the damages can all be repaired. For now he’s just thankful his family, friends and animals are all alive and well.

Officials say they’ve rescued a total of 32 people so far. On Thursday 237 people still had yet to evacuate their homes, and crews are working hard to bring those who want to leave to safety.
