Brunswick Family Assistance “Summer Foods Program” returns, supplies students with meals
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One organization in Brunswick County is finding creative ways to supply students with food outside of the classroom.
Starting on Monday, Brunswick Family Assistance is kicking off its annual Summer Foods Program. It’s designed to ensure students in need are fed during the 13 weeks of summer when they don’t have access to school lunches.
The program provides boxes that contain seven breakfast items, seven lunch items, along with snacks and drinks to last them throughout the week.
Brunswick Family Assistance Executive Director Stephanie Bowen said parents can pick up food once a week.
“If anyone is in need of Summer Food Program supplements, they can come to our office, they’ll see an intake worker, we’ll process them, and we’ll get them on their way,” Bowen said.
Bowen said currently, Brunswick Family Assistance is serving nearly 3,000 kids in the county through this program.
