NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — After recently hearing complaints from some viewers about Novant Health’s MyChart services, WWAY reached out to Novant Health for more about MyChart, and a Novant Health spokesperson has responded.

“As of May 4, Novant Health has completed an electronic medical record update, integrating Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s medical record with Novant Health’s primary medical record,” the spokesperson said, adding that the company began preparing for medical record integration shortly after New Hanover Regional Medical Center joined Novant Health a few years ago.

“Both medical records are hosted by Epic, a platform valued for patient care coordination, efficiency, and data security,” the spokesperson said. “The newly integrated platform gives patients access to a unified portal for their healthcare information, including appointments, test results, billing details and communications with their care team.” The spokesperson gave an example, saying patients in southeastern North Carolina who see physicians at Brunswick-area locations and New Hanover-area locations would have previously had to switch back and forth between two different MyChart portals, even though both were affiliated with Novant Health.

Some patients who have had procedures or checkups at Brunswick County and New Hanover County locations have reached out to WWAY, saying the MyChart portals have still not been properly connecting.

“We’re grateful to our team members who have worked diligently to identify and troubleshoot the challenges expected during technology transitions,” the spokesperson continued. “Their feedback and expertise have been a vital part of the integration process and will continue to guide additional enhancements and optimizations, which will roll out over the coming months.”
