Sunset Beach scouts out folks for trending hashtag highlighting stories of those in the community

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — One Brunswick County beach town is doing something unique to recognize some of the people who live there and those that visit. 

Sunset Beach Police Chief Kenneth J. Klamar and his wife had an idea to put the spotlight on those in town through a program called #WhereIsYourSunset. 

The trending hashtag is run by the police department and has been for nearly seven years. One of the most recent posts features a local kid and his small business lemonade stand. 

Chief Klamar shared the meaning behind the name of the program. 

“We ask them where they’re from, is this their first time to Sunset Beach, what’s their favorite thing about Sunset Beach. The where you’re from part is kind of where your sun sets, where is your sunset? Where does your sun set,” Chief Klamar said. 

The #WhereIsYourSunset program started out with weekly posts but due to popular demand, the police department is now posting almost every day on their Facebook page.
