Law enforcement and fire departments take part in charity basketball game
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Several members of law enforcement and fire departments from New Hanover County, Brunswick County, the City of Carolina Beach and the City of Wilmington took part in a charity basketball game to help benefit the Special Olympics.
The tournament took place Saturday at the Carolina Beach Recreational Center.
Things might’ve looked like they’re getting heated between the New Hanover Sheriff’s department and the City of Carolina Beach basketball teams.
But it’s just supporting a great cause and raising money for the athletes of the Special Olympics.
“Everything and anything the Special Olympics does, they don’t ask for a single cent from their families,” said Special Olympics Coordinator for New Hanover County Sheriff’s department Billy Montjoy. “Everything is through donations and that’s what we’re all about.”
Jason Hoffmann of the New Hanover Sheriff’s department says he enjoys playing in this tournament because it feels great to get out there and play for such a great cause.
