LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick Regional Water & Sewer H2GO has issued a Stage 4 Water Shortage Alert.

The company says excessive customer irrigation has continued to increase over the past several weeks putting the water system at capacity and threatening the integrity of water supply wells.

Effective immediately, and until further notice, all irrigation is prohibited. All non-essential water use is prohibited.

Non-compliance may result in civil penalties.

H2GO says they will evaluate daily water demands, system capacities, water supply well recovery rates, and precipitation to determine sustainable customer usage and possible easing of irrigation restrictions.

H2GO issued a statement about the dramatic increase from a stage 1 to now a stage 4 alert.

In it, the agency cites the main cause for the jump is increased water usage despite the first warning. It said water supplies are running 24/7 to meet the extended demands leaving no recovery time for the system.
