Wilmington Police share a cup of coffee with the community
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department came together with a local fast food restaurant for a chance to get out into the community they serve and spend time with the people they help protect.
The Coffee with a Cop was held Saturday morning at the McDonalds on Market Street in Wilmington.
Guests could come in, get a free coffee and spend time with some of the men and women who help keep our city safe.
The officers were chatting with guests, handing out Halloween candy in the drive thru line and even having fun in the play area with some children.
The goal of the event was to show that there is more to cops than meets the eye.
“We try to be part of the community so there’s not a divide. So they see us as real people and see that when we have to do our job, we have to do our job.” Wilmington Police Officer Michael Scott said. “But they know that we’re going to try and do our best to do the right thing.”
Scott said that it was a great chance to get out into the community they serve, see some new faces and even some familiar ones.
