Southport mobile DMV office moves to new location

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) – If you need to visit the mobile DMV Driver License Unit in Southport, it will be in a new location for a couple of days.

According to the NC Department of Transportation, it has moved from its previous location on N. Howe Street to a new location at 111 E. Nash Street in the Southport EMS and Rescue Building.

The mobile unit will be open to customers on November 2 and 3, and December 6, 7 and 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

As part of Governor Pat McCrory’s “Driving Change” initiative to improve customer service and reduce wait times at DMV offices, the DOT says the DMV has developed a compact, more flexible mobile office that provides DMV services to areas without a brick-and-mortar office.

It’s the first of its kind in the nation.  The DOT says this gives customers in all areas of the state better access to driver license services.
