Voters say they are ready for the election to be over

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The polls close tomorrow for the 2016 election and tonight we were out talking with voters about what they thought of this election cycle. Many of the people we talked with tonight said this election has brought out sides of people they never expected and they are ready for it to be over.

“This election to me, it’s stressful,” said Paige Travers.

“I feel like there’s no middle ground at all,” said Caleb Kuhne.

The race for the White House has been tough on voters in Wilmington.

“I think it’s just because it’s so driven down to the issues in this election and it kinda corrupts the whole idea of the system,” said Kuhne.

“If there’s actually one good thing that this election has done is that it’s completely brought out the worst of everybody so that we know that there’s all these intolerant behaviors still in the world and nobody can actually deny them any longer,” said Alex Ayres

Voters place the blame on both candidates equally.

“It’s really all Clinton and Trump’s fault really. Because they were the two biggest headliners of their parties,” said Vincent Troutner.

They said poolitical disagreements have even impacted their daily lives.

“A lot of friends are getting divided on who they’re voting for. It’s like burning a lot of bridges,” Jordan Robinson said.

Many said they are ready for the election to end and for people to start working on coming together again as a country.

“People need to stop thinking about an election as two people and like we’re a country together, it’s not just two candidates. We all are working for a common goal,” Travers said.

Bot not everyone is optimistic that goal will become a reality after this election day.

“2020 election when hopefully we don’t have to deal with either one of them. Maybe someone new will come up,” said Troutner.

Until then, the polls in this year’s election are open Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
