‘Missing Man Remembrance Table’ unveiled at Wilmington VA

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As Veterans’ Day approaches, Wilmington VA Health Care Center unveiled a special display that will be a permanent figure in the facility’s main lobby.

It’s called the Missing Man Remembrance Table.

A ceremony was held Tuesday to mark the occasion. It featured a presentation of the colors by an the all service color guard from Eugene Ashley High School and remarks from veterans.

Fred Roche, Administrator, says the table is a place of honor in memory of fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service members.

He says they held a moment of silence to pay tribute to prisoners of war or those listed as missing in action.

“Not only will it remind our staff of who we are taking care of but also the other veterans who utilize our facility to remember their brothers and sisters that have no made it back,” Roche said.

Each item on the table is a symbol. For example, the table is round to show the everlasting concern. The single red rose in the vase reminds us of the loved ones and friends of the missing Americans who keep the faith, awaiting for answers.
