Veterans honored at Battleship Park
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Saturday at Battleship Park, AARP hosted their second annual Veterans Day celebration to honor those who have served or are continuing to serve our country.
Members of all branches of the military were in attendance to be honored for their service.
The day began with a fly over by the Air Force Bandit Flight Team and continued with a presentation by several dignitaries.
Each one spoke on how important it is to honor those who have served.
Today, many military members feel that support. However, those who served in the Vietnam era haven’t always felt that support.
“It’s a very good feeling but it’s hard to explain in a way also,” Retired Air Force member Thurmond Bethey said. “At one time the Vietnam era veterans were not appreciated but now all the appreciation we get is overwhelming.”
The ceremony concluded with each veteran given a chance to stand and be recognized for their service.
Live entertainment and fun for all in attendance followed the ceremony.
The goal was that everyone could have a fun day while recognizing who gave us the freedom to have it.
