Victim in Carolina Beach fatal stabbing identified

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach Police have released the identity of the man stabbed to death on July 4th.

Dakota Ryan Capes, 28, of Carolina Beach, was found dead at an apartment on Spencer Farlow Drive around 7:45 a.m. Officers were dispatched to a ‘person down’ call. That’s when they found Capes with stab wounds.

The suspect, James Arthur Johnson, 40, of Laurinburg was seen leaving the area and was arrested the same day for the crime.

During Johnson’s court appearance, it was revealed the victim was stabbed in the back 15 times.

Johnson is charged with second degree murder and is being held under a $1 million bond.
