UNCW releases men’s basketball schedule
WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY)– Four games in the Global Sports Invitational and an early-December matchup against Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Wake Forest at the Greensboro Coliseum highlight the 2010-11 UNCW men’s basketball schedule in Buzz Peterson’s first season with the Seahawks.
The Seahawks have 30 regular season games and two exhibition contests on the horizon. Overall, UNCW will play 18 home games, featuring a designated home game with Wake in Greensboro and two exhibition contests, and 14 away tilts. As usual, the ledger includes 18 games in the Colonial Athletic Association. “This year’s schedule is very demanding and will be a challenge for our ball club,” said Peterson. “We play on the road quite a bit early on, but that will give our team an opportunity to get to know each other. We have many home games, so that’s great for our fans and supporters.”
After a pair of exhibition games against Coker and Georgia Southwestern, the Seahawks kick off the Buzz Peterson Era on Friday, Nov. 12, with a trip to Gainesville, Fla., to face Billy Donovan’s Florida Gators. UNCW and UF will be joined in the Global Sports exempt event by Ohio State, Morehead State and North Carolina A&T.
The Seahawks make their first appearance at Trask Coliseum on Tuesday, Nov. 16, when Liberty visits the Port City to open a two-game mini-homestand against two first-time opponents. UNCW also squares off against Morehead State two days later to cap a busy opening week. Peterson’s squad then embarks on a five-game swing that starts with a Nov. 20 date at Ohio State and concludes with a Dec. 12 clash against WFU in Greensboro. In between, UNCW makes its CAA debut on Dec. 4 at George Mason. After battling the Demon Deacons, the Seahawks continue their non-conference slate with home dates against Radford and Illinois State before wrapping up the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule by traveling to Campbell on Dec. 22. UNCW resumes the campaign on Thursday, Dec. 30, against Toledo at Trask Coliseum and heads into the heart of its CAA ledger with 10 games in January, beginning with a Jan. 3 clash at William & Mary. The Seahawks also play seven conference games in February, wrapped around a Feb. 19 home game in the ESPN Bracket Busters Series.
