Small earthquake reported in western North Carolina

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – A small earthquake has been reported in western North Carolina.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the earthquake happened shortly after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday about 30 miles west of Asheville.

There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The quake could be felt in downtown Asheville.

The magnitude 2.9 quake occurred about 2 miles beneath the surface.
