Cuisines from around the world at Brightmore of Wilmington

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Without having to go very far, a certain group of people are getting stamps on their passports and a taste of other cultures cuisines.

Brightmore of Wilmington Senior Living Community hosted their “Taste of the World” event Tuesday for some of their residents. For the past few months residents have participated in this event. Some of the cuisines were Americana which featured a tomahawk steak and dishes from Spain. This month they got to enjoy crafty cuisine from Greece and Italy without having to even leave the country.

Each individual gets their own passport that gets a stamp for each location when they dine around the world. At the end of this year’s program, the participants who complete every location will be added to raffle and they can win a meal for five.

“A lot of them can’t get out on a regular basis. So, we bring a really fine dining restaurant to their home for an afternoon and it’s fun,” executive chef Bazzini said.

“They don’t get out; they don’t get to travel and so instead of them traveling to these other countries we brought it to them. We collaborated with our sister community and wanted to share with them all the different flavors that we learned doing culinary,” John Harker said.

Director of dining services John Harker and executive chef Paul Bazzini add some of the dishes for today’s meal were gnocchi – a Greek meatball – grilled octopus, and more.
