Snowboarders compete at Wrightsville Beach
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — While it stayed dry on the mainland, out in Wrightsville Beach, there was two inches of fresh powder at South End Surf Shop.
People gathered around this morning for the second South End Surf Shop Snowboard Rail Jam.
Even though this weekend’s winter storm didn’t bring along snow, that didn’t stop boarders from having some winter fun.
Around 4:30 this morning the snow was made with compressed air and water. At 11 the course was ready.
The riders strapped in and had some fun.
For owner Jeff DeGroote, it was great to see the community come together for a family fun event.
“It was great to see all the community to come out and the neighbors come out and the young kids from around here,” DeGroote said. “Really it’s just more for the community. It’s a unique event, we don’t get to hold it very often and now all the kids can play in the snow that they didn’t get yesterday.”
Participants wanted more rounds to compete, but enjoyed getting the chance to snowboard at the beach
