Baseball season just over a week away for UNCW
WILMINGTON, NC (COURTESY UNCWSPORTS.COM) — With under two weeks to go until the start of the season, UNCW juniors Brian Mims (second base) and Nick Feight (designated hitter) added to their collections of preseason honors, being named second-team preseason All-Americas by D1Baseball.com.
Both were honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association earlier this month as first-team preseason All-Americas and were recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association coaches as preseason All-CAA selections. Feight was voted the conference’s preseason Player-of-the-Year.
Mims is UNCW’s top returning hitter with a .371 average in 2016. He totaled 32 extra base hits, including 14 home runs, and scored 71 runs, ranking third nationally.
Feight, who was the CAA’s Player-of-the-Year, tied school records with 24 doubles and 21 home runs. His school-record 91 runs batted in led the nation.
The Seahawks open the season hosting George Mason on Feb. 17, on the first day of the Hughes Bros. Challenge. Season and individual game tickets can be purchased online at UNCWsports.com/BuyTickets.
