New Hanover Wildcats must forfeit Tuesday’s win over Ashley

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover High School boys basketball team beat Ashley 82-53 on Tuesday night. The win secured sole possession of first place for Kirk Angel’s squad in the Mideastern Conference at the time, but the Wildcats must now share the title.

The NCHSAA does not allow a team to play more than 24 regular season games. Tuesday’s game was the 25th of the season for New Hanover. As a result the victory now gets shifted to Ashley.

The winner of the Ashley-West Brunswick boys basketball game on Thursday will share the Mideastern Conference title. You can see which team that is on the Full Court Press, which is on Thursday this week due to the schedule for the end of the regular season.
