Board of Elections to certify outcomes of judges’ races

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The State Board of Elections is about to close its final chapter on North Carolina’s 2010 elections. The board scheduled a conference call Thursday afternoon to certify the results from a pair of November judicial races, including the statewide election for the Court of Appeals.

A recount completed earlier this week affirmed Doug McCullough’s narrow victory over incumbent Judge Cressie Thigpen for the appeals court seat. Thirteen attorneys ran for the job. McCullough and Thigpen advanced to the second round by getting the most first-place votes cast through instant runoff voting. The board also is expected to certify the results of another instant runoff race for Superior Court judge in Cumberland County.

The two races are the only ones yet to be certified by the board.
